JesseLockwood Theater Company's signature production, JESSE, is Northfield's original treasured musical retelling of  the story of notorious train and bank robber, Jesse James — and it opens this week for seven performances!

A rollicking good time for audience and cast alike, this family-friendly show is filled with great songs and dialogue that trace Jesse's life with his beloved wife, Zee, including the famed Northfield Bank Raid.

Performed in a 19th century theater — The Grand Event Center in Northfield [map] — and acted in the style of turn-of-the-century music hall melodramas, the audience is strongly encouraged  – nay, required! – to loudly cheer the heroes and hiss at the villains as the story unfolds through comedy and, of course, tragedy.

Performances are:

Labor Day Weekend

  • Thursday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. – OPENING NIGHT
  • Friday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m.

Defeat of Jesse James Days Weekend

  • Thursday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 11 (two performances) at 12:00 noon AND at 3:00 p.m. – CLOSING PERFORMANCE

Tickets for JESSE are General Admission and Reserved Box Seats. General admission tickets are $15/adults and $10/children under 12. Reserved box seats are sold in groups of 6 ($120) or 8 ($160).

We're moving on up!

August 24, 2010 · 0 comments

We moved our rehearsals to the Grand Event Center this week and are heading into our final preparations for our performances of JESSE — opening Thursday night, September 2.

This week we'll have tech rehearsals and next week we start with full dress rehearsals leading straight into performances.

It's really special to stand on the stage of the Grand and perform. You can't help but think of all the people and acts and movies that have played there in its 100+ year history! It helps to put things into perspective.

The Northfield Historical Society has created some wonderful video podcasts about significant buildings in town — and the Ware Auditorium (the original name of the Grand). Check out all the wonderful historical information and pictures that were included.

One important bit of information that was left out. The "new owner" of the Grand who took over the venue in the 1990s is none than Northfield native, Chuck Pryor, who also owns the Tavern Restaurant and Lounge in town. We think it's great that a "local" brought the Grand back into our community in such a big way.

A Theater Watching Quiz

August 16, 2010

This wonderful story originally appeared in the August 2010 issue of the Northfield Entertainment Guide. It is reprinted here with their kind permission. By Felicia Crosby When attending a theater production, it is considered good manners to: watch quietly and respectfully, stilling all coughs and sneezes holler out to warn the heroine when you see [...]

Drum roll, please!

August 12, 2010

Zubin Mehta once said “Essentially, the [New York] Philharmonic is just like any other orchestra-they all have the spirit of kids, and if you scratch away a little of the fatigue and cynicism, out comes a 17-year-old music student again, full of wonder, exuberance and a tremendous love of music.” Lockwood Theater Company is fortunate [...]

Yield not to temptation…

August 9, 2010

One of the striking scenes in JESSE is the point in the first act when we meet all three "villians" — Cindy Lou Ford, Clyde Wagstaff and Bob Ford — as they introduce their motives for wanting to get revenge upon Jesse James. It's a blending of sacred and profane of almost operatic proportions! The "sacred" is [...]
